Welcome to Earthling!

This is a space where we get to be human, creative and strange. So come on in, it’s night time, the fog is rolling in and class is about to start. Put on the clothes that make you feel your most ready to make something playful, grab your favorite beverage (or two), pick up that old soup can sitting in the window sill with the string tied to the end of it and talk to me. Let’s make things and chat while we navigate this weird life.

Earthling is a newsletter and experiment in communication. I want to hold an intentional space for me to explore my creative practice, my curiosities and thoughts and share them with people interested in exploring their own. I am exploring communicating with you but most importantly with myself.

In the last few years I have begun to feel like I am running from content to content without thinking at all about what I am consuming or creating and I wanted to make a space for me to get back to moving slowly through my creativity. I have spent a long time on the internet sharing my creative practice and connecting with others and I am excited to do more of that.

Without ads.

Slowly.

Who am I?

My name is Lindsay! I am an illustrator, a painter, an adjunct professor, an open water swimmer, a dog mom and a human being and a lot of other things in between.

I make large oil paintings and small gouache and watercolor illustrations. I work on client projects like murals or I recently did a project for the City of Albany here in the Bay Area. I do gallery shows when I have time, and more recently I have been working on a graphic novel/short story and making space for writing fiction in my creative practice.

My favorite food is pizza, and I like to eat it while I watch basketball, I like to sew and paint while I listen to baseball on the radio and when I am not doing that I am often listening to audiobooks and walking my old dogs. My favorite way to wake up is to walk and move my body. I recently turned forty and have a wizard hair on my chin. Don’t be jealous.

I foster senior dogs with my boyfriend of 20 years, and I have a deep love for the Bay Area. I was born in Berkeley and live in San Francisco and love swimming in the seal infested waters that surround this city.

What do paid subscribers get for $5/month?

  • Subscriber-only posts — sometimes, I write special posts for paid earthlings only. And sometimes, I paywall posts so only paid earthlings can read to the end.

  • Post comments and join the community — share what you are working on and meet other people who are also creative! I would love to hear what you have been doing.

  • The full archive — some special posts are locked after a few weeks. They’ll stay unlocked for you.

What about founding members for $100?

  • Excerpts and process from my unreleased graphic novel — every once in a while you will get founding member only posts where I share sketches, drafts, characters, failed drawings and paintings and works in progress from my first graphic novel.

Hope to hear your scratchy little voice on the other end of our tin can telephone soon.

Warmly,

Lindsay
